ASJKA
Roughly 30 km. south
of Myvatan is the triple nested caldera Asjka.
Three successive eruptions in 1875 left one crater inside another.
The inner most crater contains a small acidic lake called
Viti. Viti translates to “hell”
in Icelandic. The milky water is
said to have healing properties. In
the sprit of good health, we scaled down the slope and swam across the
60 meter deep lake. The two tiny dots in the water are swimmers!
