Where ice meets the ocean. Several glaciers spawned by the Vatnajokull meet their end at Jokulsarlon. The glacial lagoon offers travelers an opportunity to get intimate with the massive sheets of ice.
Glacial ice is extraordinary to experience. The iridescent pale blue color seems almost unreal. A small piece is completely clear and void of air bubbles. The immense pressure that creates glacial ice squeezes out any trapped oxygen. Two members of our party took the opportunity to really get intimate with the glaciers by swimming for a short moment among the giants. Those crazy Americans!
