In-class Exercise/Lab

 

You are provided with the RUC 12 h fcst 500 mb and surface forecast as forecast Òbackground.Ó

 

1.  Analyze the 1516 UTC surface chart subsynoptically.  There are outflow boundaries and fronts on this chart, but no dryline.  Make sure you analyze isobars at 2 mb intervals, present weather,65 degree isodrosotherm and all boundaries. (John's)

 

2.  Obtain the 12 UTC KAMA sounding from the Plymouth database and analyze it for CCL , convective temperature, and potential afternoon (assuming CT) EL, CAPE, CINH.

 

3.  Estimate the 0-6 km deep layer shear by simple subtraction of surface winds from 500 mb winds.
