CCM Application Essay

Relevance of the CCM

In any specialized field, a certification is a sign of competence of the individual in that field. Whether it is teaching, engineering, law, accounting, or meteorology, this certification brings with it the high standards set forth by the professional world. The American Meteorological Society has established the Certified Consulting Meteorologist, or CCM as an individual whom has taken the time and effort to stay abreast with the field in which they love.

The initials CCM written at the of a name brings with it the knowledge that that person has the education and experience in this field. For someone like myself, whom has dabbled in many aspects of meteorology, from education and research to forecasting and the media, to working with a consulting firm, a CCM will seal all of these facets together. For me, the CCM represents years of determination and hard work. This avenue in my professional life is the next logical step to take, with the CCM adding to the credentials of my background.

The CCM is pertinent in the field of meteorology to also maintain currency. With the guidelines set forth by the AMS, the CCM must stay connected to the science, and new advances within it. By remaining fresh and current in this field, the CCM can remain competitive in the job market.

Having a CCM means that the person has worked hard and is committed to maintain the dignity and respect the AMS has bestrode upon them in their professional life.
