Note the three areas labeled on the 0000 UTC Eta Initializations for 500 mb heights and voriticity, and 1000-500 mb Thicknesses and Surface Isobars. The areas are labeled with an "x", "+" and "y"

1. State whether vorticity advection at 500 mb is positive, negative or neutral (meaning weak or negligible or absent) at the three locations. (One sentence for each location).

2. State whether mean temperature advection from the surface to 500 mb is warm, cold or neutral at the three locations. . (One sentence for each location).

3. State whether the synoptic scale controls on vertical motion (as discussed in class last week and summarized on the website we looked at last week—you can look at it again now) favors motion that is upward, downward, or ambiguous at each of the three locations. . (Two sentences for each location).

4. Now examine the 700 mb vertical vclocity field that actually occurred at the three locations. State how this is consistent or inconsistent with what you found in (3). (One sentence for each location).
