Class Notes for April 5, 2004

- Went over paper corrections/comments.

- Writing assignment will be given Wednesday March 7th, due 2 weeks from Wednesday.

- Looked at weather map. Clicked on 2mTd. Due point temperature is related to air over oceans.

- Highest due point temperature is around the Gulf of Mexico, winds east and southeast.

- Looked at the Convective Outlook.

- Went over the link Thermal and Dynamic... looked at the Diagram about pressure systems.

-The cold air in the Pacific moves counter clockwise, and the cold air in the Atlantic moves clockwise.

- Looked at sea surface temperature map.

- West, Pacific High.
- East, Bermuda High.

- North American Thermal low is always found on map.


- Air moves clockwise and outward on surface weather
map.

- Europe has westerly winds.


- West, has westerly and North Westerly winds.


- Stationary during warm half of year.


- Gyres: current system in ocean.


- Clockwise gyres in Pacific.

- Warm currents in the west, cold currents in the east. Southwest is warmer, has mountains.

- Great Basin: gets hot, air from Pacific tries to get in but can not because of the mountains. Cool air does not get in. Affects pressure patterns.

- Northwest winds during summer, because of pressure
system.

- Monsoon: Indian word, air from ocean coming to continent.
