Hurricane Eye
Hurricane Isabel (ÒCherry Point MeteogramÓ)
- Typhoon is in the West Pacific (near Philippines) moving east to west contrary to the clouds and jet streams in the area that are moving west to east along the Pacific.
- US Navy Tropical Cyclone Page shows the cycloneÕs tracks and future tracks with the top level always displaying the most current cyclonic info.
o Blue tracks represent the actual chronological tracks of the cyclone
o Magenta tracks show the probability area of the cycloneÕs tracks (a.k.a ÒHurricane Avoidance AreaÓ).
- Typhoon warnings show the position and wind speeds of the typhoon at timed intervals.
- Matched the hurricane definition with an eye.
o Clouds spiraled in a clockwise fashion.
o Cyclone occurred in the tropics.
o There was an eye confirming 75 mph winds or greater.
- Wind moves so fast that it canÕt flow into the center of the storm because of centrifugal force. This causes the storm to intensify as the pressure in the center falls. To eliminate vacuums, air sinks down from the upper atmosphere to the surface, forming a clear eye (75mph).
- Hurricane extends from Maine to Virginia.
- Cape Hataras experiences gusts 19 Ð 59 mph.
- Wind and pressure shifts seen at Cape Hataras when hurricane approaches it.
- Most rainfall is located near the eye.
