Class Exercise:  Summer Fog Along the West Coast of the United States

There are three satellite images for you to look at.  Each image has a series of questions for you to answer.  Look at each image and think about the questions.

When you get to the last image there will be a link to a page that has all the questions on it.  Either print that out and hand it in or email it to me by Thursday September 15, 1998 at the beginning of class.

VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGE, GOES 9, 1900 UTC 8/12/97 (Click on Image, Large Version)

(Page 520 in Reader)

The image shows a mass of cloud outlining the coast.

Why do you think it outlines the coast?

Note also the comma shaped pattern offshore.  It is a dissipating tropical storm.  That subject will be covered in a future exercise.
