-Class website: Read through Divergence page

Housekeeping:

-Went over the writing assignment #1

-Review class website

Cloudiness and Precipitation:

-Looking over an 1800 ft infrared image

-The clouds rotating in a counterclockwise motion towards the Pacific coast

-The clouds with red and orange color means the clouds’ having a really cold temperature

-San Francisco is in the center of the cyclone and predicted that there will be higher precipitation tonight

-The large amount of cloud seem to move towards southeastern of United States near Arizona, Nevada, and a little part of Colorado

Climate Data across the United States:

-The map show the regions of which forecast offices is responsible to forecast the weather

-We look at the weather forecast for Downtown L.A. and San Francisco International Airport

-The map shown that there were heavy rainfall and flooding in San Francisco Airport

Flooding Pictures at SFSU:

-One hour of rainfalls can cause large amount of flooding

-18 inches to 2 feet of water on the roadway can make the car out of control and can cause dangerous situation on the freeway

-Inside those flooding water contain a lot of bacteria

Divergence and Surface Pressure System:

-Conceptual Divergence 1

            - The moving of the stack of atmospheric bricks from the side called divergence

-Conceptual Divergence 2

-The opposite of divergence is convergence

- How does the upper tropospheric divergence occur?

-“There are two main ways and these account for 100% of the highs and lows we see on the surface map”

-Thermal and Dynamic Pressure Systems

-Explain the pressure systems between the lands and the oceans

-The oceans starts with the thermal high and ends in thermal low

-The lands starts with the thermal low into thermal high
