California
Current, thermal low, thermal high and the temperature of the continent in
july.
Observed
a storm currently forming over us.
Looked at infrared satellite image and sea level weather map. Dynamic low over Nevada at 19z, 11
oÕclock pacific standard time. Now
we subtract 8 hours because we are no longer on daylight savings time.
The
continent is warmer than the ocean at any latitude. The continent cools down more than the
Ocean. Land can cool from 110 to 30 degrees
where as the ocean may cool from 60 to 50 degrees. The California current is present in the winter, but it is
not as cold relative to the continent.
In
the summer the North American thermal low reaches into California. Average temperatures on the California
Coast in July are 60 to 70 degrees north to south. It is windiest in the summer because there is the greatest
pressure difference between the Pacific High and North American Low. In the summer the jet stream is not at
our latitude so storms move to the north of us.
